Frequently Asked Questions

How often will we meet and for how long?
Each session lasts one hour. Sessions are usually once a week, either for an agreed time period or on an open-ended basis. If open-ended, we will review regularly whether you are getting what you want from counselling.

How long does counselling take?
There is no short answer to this, except perhaps "it all depends"! We would usually agree to an initial six sessions, followed by a review of what has been achieved and whether you want to continue. You are under no pressure to do so. For some people, a relatively short period of counselling helps tackle the immediate issue and that is all they want. Sometimes a longer period is necessary to address underlying issues.

What does it cost?
Daytime sessions cost £40 (individuals) or £50 (couples). Evening sessions cost an additional £5. Payment can be by cash, cheque or bank transfer. I have a limited number of places at reduced cost for those on low income.

Where do counselling sessions take place?
Daytime sessions take place at my home in South Ascot.  Evening sessions are at Ascot PhysioFirst Centre in Sunninghill.

Is it possible to meet somewhere else?
I am able to offer sessions elsewhere, e.g. at your home or office, if the venue is suitable. There are many reasons why this might be desirable, such as mobility restrictions, time pressure around other commitments, the need for a greater degree of privacy and/or security, and so on. I will be happy to discuss your individual needs. (Please note: There is an extra charge for this service, which depends on location.)

What does 'confidential' mean?

The content of sessions is private, and I will not divulge details to anyone else with the following exceptions.

a. I may talk to my supervisor (see below) which is standard practice.
b. If I believe there is serious risk of harm to yourself or to another person - in which case I would normally discuss things with you first.
c. If compelled by a court of law to give evidence.

What happens in supervision?
I meet regularly with my supervisor - a highly experienced therapist - who monitors my work and who is bound by the same code of ethics and confidentiality as I am. At these meetings I discuss the work I'm doing and receive advice and clarification on the best approach to any issues I may have encountered. The focus is on me providing the best service I can to you.

Hey, my question isn't in this list!
I'll be happy to hear from you and to answer your questions. Please phone me (07907 578019) or send me an email. And remember, I also offer the first session free of charge - this is a good place to explore your questions face-to-face and to get a feel for whether you want to work with me.
